$1.00 – Regular Fare
Exact coins or cash required, drivers do not issue change. 

$0.50 – Reduced Fare
Reduced Fares are offered to senior citizens 60 and older, students enrolled in grades K-12, and persons with disabilities receiving assistance from the Social Security Administration, Medicare, or who submit a completed BT Reduced Fare application verified by a doctor or approved agency. Payment by reduced fare requires presentation of a valid Reduced Fare ID, BT-issued student ID card, or Medicare card to the bus driver. Any patron not presenting one of these ID cards will be required to pay the regular fare. No refunds will be given.

Disability verification forms and Reduced Fare ID cards are available at the Bloomington Transit office at 130 West Grimes Lane Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4:30 pm and the Transit Center at 301 South Walnut Street Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and Saturdays 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Holiday closures are listed at the bottom of the page.


Student Reduced Fares

 Students K-12 who wish to pay reduced fare, use reduced fare passes and tickets or the Summer Fun Pass, must present the bus driver a BT-issued student ID card. These IDs can be obtained at the main office and Transit Center with proof of age and enrollment in K-12 a school (examples: school IDs, report cards, school planner, or class itinerary). Each August, check our home page for posting of dates for the BT representative visitation of high school and middle  schools issuing students up for new BT student ID cards. Student ID cards are valid through the school year and summer, expiring each end of August.


FREE – The following passengers ride free upon presentation of valid identification cards that have not expired.

  • Children 4 years old and younger (with supervision, no ID required)
  • IU Bloomington Students (IU Bloomington Crimson Card)
  • IU Bloomington Faculty/Staff (IU Bloomington Crimson Card)
  • City of Bloomington Employees
  • Monroe County Goverment Employees
  • BTaccess Certified Persons 

PASSES

Next month’s passes typically go on sale the 25th of the previous month.

$150.00 – Semi-Annual Passes
Valid January 31 to June 30 or July 1 to December 31. Prices are prorated if purchased for periods of less than 6 months.

$75.00 – Reduced Fare Semi-Annual Passes (Must show driver Reduced Fare ID, BT-issued Student ID or Medicare card upon boarding)
Valid January 1 to June 30 or July 1 to December 31. Prices are prorated if purchased for periods of less than 6 months.

$30.00 – Monthly Passes
Valid from the first day of the purchased month through the last day of the same month.

$15.00 – Reduced Fare Monthly Pass (Must show Reduced Fare ID, BT-issued Student ID or Medicare card upon boarding)
Valid from the first day of the purchased month through the last day of the same month.

$12.00 – Summer Fun Pass
Kids K-12 can purchase a Summer Fun Pass and ride most of the summer for only $12. It is valid May 21, 2022 until the start of the MCCSC fall school year. Pass carriers must carry their BT-issued student ID card to use the Summer Fun Pass. Free Student ID cards are available at the main office at 130 West Grimes Lane and The Transit Center at 301 South Walnut Street beginning May 9, 2022. To obtain a student ID card, you must bring your child’s school picture ID, report card, or letter from the school verifying age and enrollment.

TICKETS

$10.00 – Ten Ride Tickets
$5.00 – Reduced Fare Ten Ride Tickets (Must show driver Reduced Fare ID, BT-issued Student ID or Medicare card upon boarding)


Mobile Bus Passes


BT and BTaccess riders may purchase and display mobile passes on their smart phones with the Token Transit app.  Single Ride, Reduced Fare, and Paratransit Fare available using a smart phone.  Click here for more information.

TRANSFERS
Transfers are issued to provide service between two points not served by a single route. Transfers are free and are valid for the next bus to your destination at locations where routes intersect. Transfers are only issued at the time of boarding to customers who pay a fare or board with a Bloomington Transit ticket. Transfers are valid for one hour. Transfers may not be used for a return trip. Rural Transit accepts BT transfers and BT accepts Rural Transit transfers within an hour of issuance.

Where to Buy Passes and Tickets
Passes and tickets are for sale at two locations: the Transit Center at 3rd & Walnut and the main office at 130 West Grimes Lane. Payments can be made by cash, check, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover). Bank cards are acceptable as credit only, not debit. The main office is open Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4:30 pm. The Transit Center ticket office is open M-F 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. The Transit Center and the offices on Grimes Lane are closed on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day (Grimes Lane office closed the day after Thanksgiving also), and Christmas Day. Any such holidays that fall on a Sunday, will be observed on the following Monday. The Grimes Lane office are additionally closed on MLK Day and Labor Day.

Using Fare, Passes, and Tickets
Please have your fare media and IDs ready when the bus arrives to the bus stop. Fare tanks, located next to the driver, accept cash or coins. Fare tanks and drivers do not issue change. There is an ATM and change machine in the Transit Center. Tickets are to be placed in the bill slot of the fare tank. Transfers and passes are to be presented to the driver.

Paying reduced fare or using reduced fare passes or tickets, including the mobile version, requires presentation of a valid BT Reduced Fare ID, BT-issued student ID card, or Medicare card to the bus driver. Drivers may need to closely examine IDs for validation. Any patron not presenting one of these ID cards will be required to pay the regular fare. No refunds will be given.
