About Transfers

AT THIS TIME, TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF THE CORONAVIRUS, UNTIL FURTHER, TRANSFERS ARE NOT NECESSARY AS WE ARE NOT CHARGING FARE. Transfers are only issued at the time of boarding to customers who pay a fare or board with a Bloomington Transit paid pass. Transfers are issued to provide service between two points not served by a single route. Transfers are free and are valid for the next bus to your destination at locations where routes intersect, designated on the current System Map with the “T” transfer symbol.

Transfers may not be used for a return trip and are valid within an hour of issuance.

Transfers can also be made between BT and Rural Transit routes only at the downtown Transit Center until August 18. Effective August 19, 2019, transfers between Rural Transit’s Park 48/Ivy Tech route and BT Route 3 West will be located at Whitehall Plaza in front of Planet Fitness. On weekdays, Rural Transit buses will meet Route 3 every 30 minutes up until 7 p.m. Rural Transit buses will wait for Route 3 bus for any transferring passengers. The Rural Transit service from Spencer/Ellettsville will connect with BT inbound Route 1 North at the Kroger north shelter on Kinser Pike at approximately 7:35 a.m. Transferring passengers from Rural Transit can board Route 1 North bus which would then take them to the Downtown Transit Center. Then, an outbound Rural Transit bus going to Ellettsville and Spencer would leave the Kroger north shelter at 8:10 a.m. and accept any transfers from the Route 1 North bus which would have dropped off at 7:26 a.m.

Passengers using monthly, semi-annual, Summer Fun Passes, and IU Crimson Cards, do not need transfers.
