Fares, Passes, and Tickets

$1.00 – Regular Fare
Exact fare required, drivers do not carry change.
$0.50 – Reduced Fare
Reduced Fares are offered to senior citizens, students enrolled in grades K-12, and persons with disabilities receiving assistance from the Social Security Administration, Medicare, or who submit a completed BT Reduced Fare application verified by a doctor or approved agency. Payment by special fare requires presentation of a valid BT-issued picture, BT-issued student ID card, or Medicare card to the bus driver. Any patron not presenting one of these ID cards will be required to pay the regular fare. No refunds will be given.

Disability verification forms and Reduced Fare ID cards are available at the Bloomington Transit office at 130 West Grimes Lane Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4:30 pm and the Transit Center at 301 South Walnut Street Monday through Friday 7 am to 10 pm and Saturdays 8:30 am to 6:10 pm.

Students K-12 who wish to pay reduced fare, use a reduced fare pass or Summer Fun Pass, must present the bus driver a BT-issued student ID card. These can be obtained at the main office with proof of age and enrollment in K-12 a school (examples: school IDs, report cards, school planner, or class itinerary). At the beginning of each school year, look on our home page for posting of dates when a BT representative visits high school and middle schools to sign students up for new BT student ID cards. Student ID cards are valid through the school year and summer, expiring in September.

FREE – The following passengers ride free upon presentation of valid identification cards that have not expired:

  • Children 4 years old and younger (with supervision, no ID required)
  • IU Students (IU Photo ID must read “Student”)
  • IU Faculty/Staff (IU Photo ID must read “Faculty/Staff Bus Pass”)
  • Hoosier Link (IU Photo ID must read “Hoosier Link Student”)
  • City of Bloomington Employees
  • Monroe County Employees
  • BTaccess Certified Persons

PASSES

$150.00 – Semi-Annual Passes
Prices are prorated if purchased for periods of less than 6 months.

$75.00 – Reduced Fare Semi-Annual Passes (BT-issued ID card required)

$30.00 – Monthly Passes

$15.00 – Reduced Fare Monthly Pass (BT-issued ID card required)

$12.00 – Summer Fun Pass
Kids K-12 can purchase a Summer Fun Pass and ride most of the summer (May 25th to August 9th) for only $12. Pass carriers must carry their BT-issued student ID card to use the Summer Fun Pass. Summer Fun Passes are available at our main office (130 West Grimes Lane) and the downtown Transit Center (301 S. Walnut St) beginning May 20th. Free Student ID cards are available only at the main office at 130 West Grimes Lane and The Transit Center at 301 South Walnut Street. To obtain a student ID card, you must bring your child’s school picture ID, report card, or letter from the school verifying age and enrollment.

TICKETS

$10.00 – Ten Ride Tickets (Sheet of 10)
$5.00 – Reduced Fare Ten Ride Tickets (BT-issued ID card required)

Passes and tickets are for sale at two locations: the Transit Center at 301 S. Walnut St. and the main office at 130 West Grimes Lane. Payments can be made by cash, check , or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover). Bank cards are acceptable as credit only, not debit. The main office is open Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4:30 pm. The Transit Center is open M-F 6:45 am to 11:00 pm and Saturdays from 8:15 am to 6:30 pm. Transfers
Transfers are only issued at the time of boarding to customers who pay a fare or board with a Bloomington Transit paid pass. Transfers are issued to provide service between two points not served by a single route. Transfers are free and are valid for the next bus to your destination at locations where routes intersect. Transfers may not be used for a return trip. Rural Transit transfers are also accepted.

The Transit Center and the offices on Grimes Lane will be closed on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Any such holidays that fall on a Sunday, will be observed on the following Monday.
